If something is positive, it is worth doing. Its a great idea to check out the teachings yourself, and if well, help others discover the same.

you can never underestimate the power of your own experience. spoken, verbal thuth is always somebody's thruth, until it is explored, experienced to the greatest of details and embraced to the fullest by your entity. than it becomes your truth.

… spiritual practice of any sort has its perils (some trivial, some fatal) but then you could be the guide :)

… and for the damaging effect … is it not that exercising esoteric, shamanic, magical power to the harm of others does directly harm the wrong-doer (as in Huna for example)?? is it not a greatest deterrent?

I actually find reason to be a bit concerned about your plan.  My alarm bells go off over some points that you make.  First, I applaud your sincere desire to go further, to push the envelope.  Good for you.  Your stated uncertainty tells me that at some level in your being you sense this concern that I have as your own.  Yet, you are very lucky to have the ability to pursue your interests in exotic places like the Ukraine and Russia   You ALWAYS must determine what is of value for yourself and this can mean in the actual physical realm and not just in contemplation.

I believe all these areas that you want to explore do exist and are available to you to experience, whether you do it in these schools or find these things elsewhere in your life.  I sense that the price attached to these specific esoteric schools is high in terms of risk and yet at the same time, there never is a risk in living your life fully nor can you lose the part of your self's life that is eternal and therefore, risking physical life and losing simply ends this chapter and so, the risk - while real - is not as significant as those who do not believe in eternity would tell you.

I will tell you also why the alarm bells go off for me, it is similar to a point Janusz made.  When something is made “hidden”, when it is implied some would use knowledge “wrongly” or that you are somehow superior or the exception for being allowed to gain this knowledge, then my concerns rises.  This to me seems a “trick” and you should be “wary”.  This is a hook to your ego and you should tread carefully for that reason only, while gaining whatever you will from it.  Remember that any skepticism will always prevent you from proving what you seek to challenge the truth of.

My greatest caution to you is this - beware of others placing anything into your mind.  “Hidden programs placed in the minds of students.”  Wow, does this ever take trust.  Better to be certain those who seek such trust from you deserve it.  It would be hard to prove that to me, were I in your shoes.  The truth is that this is ever occuring as others have thoughts regarding us, just as I am having thoughts at this moment regarding you.  I even have difficulty believing it healthy to allow non-physical beings access through me to speak, though I know others with no such qualms.  But remember this life, this mind, has been give to you alone to use.  Think twice before sharing what's yours with others whose purposes may not be your own.
